Making your starter kit is very easy and takes very little time to do.  You'll want a moist side and a dry side.  Your upkeep depends on the type of isopod or springtails that you have.

    Starting with your substrate, pour the entire contents of the ExiPods substrate into your bin.  Spread the substrate out evenly as possible.

    Once you have your substrate in your bin, next take your sphagnum moss and put it to one side of the enclosure.  Make sure you don't have any loose strands close to the top of the bin or close to any of the ventilation holes.

    Once you've set up your sphagnum moss, place your cork bark however you like to.  You can set it completely in the dry side or put it half dry and half in the sphagnum moss.

    When your cork bark is set up how you like it, now is the time for your leaf litter.  Empty the entire bag into the enclosure and spread the leaves around to get a good coverage of the enclosure floor area as pictured.  As with the sphagnum moss, try to keep the leaves and stems away from the top of the enclosure and ventilation holes.

    The last thing you'll want to do before adding your isopods is to mist the sphagnum moss.  Try to get it damp but not dripping wet.  

    Now that you have your starter kit setup its time to add springtails.  If you don't have springtails you can skip to the next step.  Having a clay culture of springtails makes it so much easier to put them into an enclosure.  Simply turn the culture upside down and gently tap the bottom to get as many springtails out as you can.  They will establish on their own.  

    Last thing you will do with your new Isopod Starter Kit is add your isopods.  With the sphagnum moss that they were shipped in you can slowly pull the moss out all at once or in small pieces.  Counting each isopod as it comes out will help make sure they're all there.  Gently spread the moss out and the isopods will go on their own and find the hides and moist sides themselves.
